Applications have been invited from eligible school and
college students for admission to the 50 government-run hostels for
candidates from backward, most backward, denotified, and minority
communities in the district. There were 22 boys’ and 14 girls’ hostels
in the district and seven each for girls and boys for college students.
Students of classes 4 to 7 will be admitted to the hostels for school
students, while undergraduate, post-graduate, and polytechnic students
will be admitted to hostels for college students. Free accommodation
would be provided.

Two sets of uniforms would be
given for students studying up to class 10. SSLC and Plus Two students
would be offered free career guidance through qualified experts. The
last date for submission of filled-in applications for hostels meant for
schoolchildren will be June 15 and for hostels meant for college
students it will be July 15, Collector Jayashree Muralidharan said in a
release.
The annual income of the parents/guardians
of the candidates should be less than Rs.1 lakh. The distance between
their place of residence and the educational institution should be more
than 8 km. However, this rule would not be applicable to girls.
Application
forms can be obtained from the respective hostel wardens or the office
of the Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Officer at the District
